Flamengo Embassies and Consulates
With a passionate fan base spread across every corner of the world, the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo created the Flamengo Embassies and Consulates Program to strengthen its bond with supporters and to share Flamengo’s identity beyond the borders of Rio de Janeiro.
What Are Flamengo Embassies and Consulates?
The Embassies and Consulates are official fan groups recognized by Flamengo. These groups gather to watch matches, organize events, and promote social initiatives within their communities.
They serve as local representatives of the Nação Rubro-Negra, keeping the Mengão flame alive wherever a red-and-black heart beats with passion.
Program Goals
The Flamengo Embassies and Consulates Program aims to:
- Strengthen relationships with fans outside Rio de Janeiro, giving organized groups an official identity while promoting Rubro-Negra culture and preserving the club’s traditions in different regions of Brazil and the world — deepening their sense of belonging.
- Bring fans together to watch games, celebrate victories, and keep the Nação spirit united.
- Carry out social and community initiatives, using the power of the fan base to help those in need.
- Expand Flamengo’s institutional presence nationally and internationally.
- Encourage enrollment in the Sócio-Torcedor Program, directly contributing to the club’s growth.
Although not an official goal of the program, Embassies and Consulates often collaborate closely with the club, supporting initiatives such as the launch of Flamengo TV, which brought live broadcasts to international audiences.
The Urubu Texano Consulate was recognized by Flamengo as one of the Top 4 Embassies and Consulates abroad for its outstanding contribution to attracting new members to Flamengo TV.
A Brief History
After several fan-led initiatives around the world, the club decided to formalize these groups — issuing official certificates signed by Flamengo’s president, granting legitimacy and visibility to their work.
The program’s first version was launched on April 24, 2008, during the presidency of Márcio Braga, under the name Embaixadas da Nação.
In 2016, the program expanded with the creation of Rubro-Negra Consulates, led by then Vice President of Embassies and Consulates, Maurício Gomes de Mattos.
In 2025, under current president Eduardo Baptista (BAP), the program entered a new phase of restructuring. Ricardo Hinrichsen, Vice President of Marketing, also took charge of Embassies and Consulates, aiming to strengthen engagement and communication between Flamengo and its official groups worldwide.
A Texas Example: Urubu Texano
Based in Houston, Texas, the Urubu Texano Consulate is one of these fan-led initiatives born from the passion of supporters living outside Brazil.
Today, it serves as a vibrant meeting point for the Nação Rubro-Negra across Greater Houston — hosting special events with Flamengo legends, organizing watch parties, and standing out for its dedication to the community through charitable and cultural initiatives.
Want to Be Part of Urubu Texano?
If you’re a passionate Flamengo supporter living in Texas, come join the Urubu Texano family — even if you’re not in Houston!
We also invite you to help us expand and maybe even start a new Consulate base in your city.
